Kapok is a plant fiber of added value: soft and tender, it is called kapok fluff. The Kapok tree, today widely found in tropical zones, grows wild and thus has not been treated with fertilizers
or any chemicals. Its light, highly elastic fluff is used, after combing, for mattress pads and for the padding in cushions, mattresses and
comforters. Kapok fluff, an amber
cream color, is called "vegetable wool" or "vegetable silk" because of its silky appearance: thanks to the smooth silk-like surface, kapok
fiber does not matt or pill like wool and cotton do. A layer of natural wax protects the fibers, preventing them from absorbing water.
Therefore, since they do not retain moisture, the Kapok mattress pads do not form the warm, moist environments that can lead to bacterial
growth and which are dangerous for persons with rheumatism and arthritis. Moreover, a natural bitterness keeps dust mites and moths at
bay so that kapok mattress pads, pillows, mattresses and quilts are ideal for thosewith allergies.
